“American Idol” sure hopes this year’s summer tour is better than last year’s.   [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Scotty McCreery[/lastfm] is the reigning champ, and already has himself a top 20 hit on country radio with “I Love You This Big,”  while last year’s winner, Lee DeWyze, fell off the map.

American Idol kicks off its 10th tour tonight (7/6/11) in Salt Lake City, and this year “American Idols Live!” hits the road with an extra “Idol” after the judges saved our scruffy-muppet boy, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Casey Abrams[/lastfm].

Abrams told the Salt Lake Tribune, the tour would be “scary” but “exciting.”  Hopefully his intestinal problem doesn’t flare up during the tour.  He says his health is good now.  We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you Casey.

“American Idol” runner-up [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lauren Alaina[/lastfm] will join our down-home country winner Scotty McCreery on stage.  [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Haley Reinhart[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]James Durbin[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jacob Lusk[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sefano Langone[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paul McDonald[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Pia Toscano[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Naima Adedapo[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Thia Megia[/lastfm] as well as Abrams round out the top 11.[photogallerylink id=37095]

We just heard Miss voted-off-way-too-early Pia has signed a record deal with Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records, too.  Her debut single, “This Time” drops on Tuesday, July 12, 2011.  Her album is expected to be released at the end of the year.

As part of its 47 shows in 45 markets, the “American Idol’s Live!” tour rolls into Sacramento July 11th at the Power Balance Pavilion.

They will have some competition out there though.  Unlike “Idol”, who had to cancel seven live dates last summer due to weak ticket sales, “The Voice Live On Tour” is taking a more conservative approach.  It’s hitting the road with only its top eight finalists, with six confirmed dates in Los Angeles,  Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston, Wallingford Conn., and New York.
