The decision to have a yoga session saved the United States Women’s Soccer Team from being caught in the middle of a gang shooting!

The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team is currently in Vancouver, B.C. for the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament on Tuesday night. A fatal shooting of a local gang leader occurred in the Bar One restaurant of the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Center hotel. The team was at a yoga session in another part of the hotel during the shooting. The team’s goalie, Hope Solo, went to twitter to speak about the situation:

Saved by our instant yoga session. Was about to walk to Starbucks when all hell broke loose in the lobby of our hotel! Life is precious…

The gang leader who was murdered, Sandip Duhre, was a “notorious gangster marked for death since 2005″ according to The Province. Sandip was the head of the Duhre Group, a major force in the area’s drug trade. “The entire U.S. delegation is fine and no players or staff witnessed the incident,” read a statement issued by the team. “U.S. Soccer has taken the proper precautions to ensure the safety of the team for the duration of the competition.”
