[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Madonna[/lastfm]’s on track to set a record for the biggest second week sales drop in history. OUCH!
Just a week ago Madonna was sitting on top of the world. MDNA debuted in the top spot on the billboard 200 album charts, giving Madge her 8th #1 album.
Boy what a difference a week makes. After selling 359,000 copies when it debuted, MDNA only managed to move an estimated 46,000 copies its second week — an 88 percent drop off.
Why the big dump?
According to Forbes the first week’s numbers were inflated when the record company bundled the CD’s with concert tickets for her upcoming tour. Take away those added CD sales and Madonna only sold 179,000 copies of her album. Without the ticket package, MDNA would have debuted at #2 behind [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lionel Richie[/lastfm]’s Tuskagee last week.
Besides the inability to get any singles from MDNA to sit on the for very long Madonna also failed to generate much interest in the album, other than the Super Bowl Halftime appearance.
