Move over [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paul McCartney[/lastfm]. Thanks to Facebook, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bono[/lastfm] just became the richest Musician in the world.
Back in 2009 Bono’s investment group, Elevation Partners, had the smarts to buy into Facebook. The firm paid $90 million for 2.3 percent of the social network’s shares long before Facebook filed papers to go public.
Bono seized a golden opportunity that is now paying off big time. This one-day payday could put $1.5 billion in the tech savvy rockers pocket. By calculations, that would give Bono bragging rights as the wealthiest rockers on the planet, surpassing Paul McCartney’s estimated fortune of $1.05 billion.
Rolling Stone reports that Bono’s earnings from the Elevation Partners investment group essentially go toward various African Charities.
Even if Bono gives away huge chunks of his fortune he is still a very, very rich man. Last year Forbes put [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]U2[/lastfm] on the top of their World’s Highest Paid Musician’s list; the band made $195 million in a 12-month period, according to the magazine.
