Tom Cruise turns 50 years old today, just days after Katie Holmes filed for divorce. Tom’s been in Iceland filming “Oblivion”, but just weeks ago told People.com that he planned on sharing his big day with Katie taking in the scenery around the Nordic country.

“Iceland is beautiful,” Cruise said about his birthday plans. “We like hiking, and so we’ll have some nice hikes and maybe go camping.”

Tom reportedly was seen boarding a jet at 2 a.m. at the Reykjavik airport in Iceland. US Weekly says Tom is headed home to his California mansion close to Scientology’s West Coast base.

Katie and 6-year-old Suri are still in Manhattan at the new apartment Holmes rented as part of her escape plan.

Even though I’m still mad at the abrupt way he kicked Nicole Kidman to the curb in 2001, I find myself feeling a little sorry that Tom Cruise will spend his one-and-only 50th birthday huddling with lawyers and planning his attack.
