Last year George Michael was putting together a major-league benefit tribute to Elizabeth Taylor.  He wanted Adele to sing a duet with him on the show as a tribute to Amy Winehouse.

(Hey…BTW, did you know that George Michael once dated Brooke Shields?  Isn’t that WILD thinking back on it now…knowing what we know now about Michael’s uhmmm…likes and dislikes.  Shields SWEARS that he wrote “I’m Never Gonna Dance Again” about her!)

Anyhoo, Adele and Winehouse had been schoolmates at the BRIT School for Performing Arts.  Winehouse had passed away last year from alcohol poisoning.  Adele  was still coming to terms with her friend’s death.  Michael had wanted her to perform Winehouse’s  “Love Is A Losing Game” at the charity event, but Adele turned him down.

Michael says he understood and that, “I would love to do a track with her. I think she has no plans other than to have a baby right now, and I think she wants to lay low for a while and gather herself and to then come back to us relatively soon with some more music, and I’d love to be involved when that happens. She’s lovely.”

The proceeds from the concert went to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Elizabeth Taylor Memorial Fund.
