Ben Gibbard is set to release his first ever solo album, Former Lives, which includes songs he has written and recorded over the past eight years.

The singer/songwriter formed Death Cab for Cutie in 1997, and later became the lead vocalist for the band The Postal Service in 2003.

Set to release on October 15th in the U.K/Europe, and October 16th in the states, Former Lives, doesn’t have a specific theme and the songs are all uniquely different says Gibbard.

“The songs themselves are not all of a particular mode — they’re not all about one subject — and they’re not from one definitive era of my life,” Gibbard told Stereogum.

The 12 tracks on the new album were recorded at a studio called the Ship, which is owned by Gibbard’s longtime friend Earlimart frontman, Aaron Espinoza.

Gibbard recently released Death Cab’s 11th studio album, Codes and Keys, last May and is currently on tour.

Gibbard is also set to play a handful of tour dates after the release of his new album this Fall, yet there is no word on when a single will drop.
