As the London Olympics draw nearer, excitement over the games and the musical performances are at an all time high. The latest buzz surrounds the possibility of the Spice Girls re-uniting in time to perform at the closing ceremony for the 2012 Olympics.

The 1990′s British pop band will join other artists such as The Who, George Michael, and Jessie J for the show on August 12th. The five singers, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), will be performing their well-known 1996 single “Wannabe.”

Victoria Beckham seemingly confirmed the upcoming Olympic appearance on a talk radio station on Thursday, stating “I don’t know about a comeback tour, but I loved being back with the girls…we are very excited about the Olympics.”

The last time the girls toured together was in 2007- early 2008. Whether the re-union will turn into a tour is still unknown.

Among other rumors surrounding the 2012 Olympics, Oasis is also speculated to re-unite and perform their hit single “Wonderwall” at the ceremony.

It looks like the London Olympics will have some fun throw-backs to showcase Britain’s most animated performers.
