Touring can be hard on the body so when Margo Rey travels she always makes sure to bring along a few things to make the road feel more like home.
For her hair, the singer, who is heading out on tour with saxophonist Dave Koz for his annual Christmas outing, always carries her Goody teasing brush. The skinny comb easily fits in her purse and gives your hair a little lift without damaging it.
In her suitcase she also makes sure to pack a spray bottle of Harmonized Water that she applies after washing her face.
“When I tour I am at the mercy of whatever water comes out of the faucet,” she told CBS Local. “Some cities just have the most toxic, chlorinated water and you can feel it just drying on your face.”
Margo considers Aquaphor to be a girl’s best friend, suggesting all women go out and get themselves some.
“It’s like Vaseline,” she explains. “It’s good for your lips, cuticles, under eyes.”
She likes to have it on hand after long plane rides when her skin feels especially dry.
When asked what her number one beauty tip is though she had one simple answer: drink lots of water.
Though Margo admitted it feels silly to talk about her beauty regimen, she thinks it is important to take pride in one’s body. For her, that means keeping up with healthy eating habits even while on the road.
As a breast cancer survivor—Margo was diagnosed in 2009 and has been in remission for two and a half years—she thinks it’s important to really consider what you’re putting into your body.
“It’s so grandma,” Margo said. “I eat lots of vegetables. I don’t know, I think it all comes from the inside out.”
Some people, as she said, spend more money on their bar tab than their grocery bill. She finds they will complain about the price of cheese, but go off and spend $7 on a cocktail.
In the end, Margo believes the key to looking and feeling your best on the road is very simple: what goes in your mouth, keeps you moving forward.
