How would you like to earn nearly $8 million for turning some festive lights on? Well, first you may have earn a few Grammys and 11 number one singles.
Rihanna has been asked to be part of the annual ceremony of turning the Christmas lights on at Westfield in Stratford, UK. In return for the pretty penny she’s receiving, Rihanna will perform for 20,000 fans. This holiday season will mark the second occasion Rihanna has been a part of flipping the switch.
Rihanna is reportedly thrilled to have been asked back and who wouldn’t be for a whooping $8 million, although that’s probably chump change to her. The source reported to the Sun, “She knows it’s a big deal and is totally up for it- if it fits in with her schedule. Westfield have had a great year due to the Olympics and want to fork out to celebrate. Even though the final contract is still being thrashed out, they’re prepared to pay up to £5 million for her. Organizers are expecting around 20,000 people to swamp the park. The Spice Girls were also discussed but Rihanna came out as the artist of choice.”
The ceremony is comparable to the tree lighting in New York’s Rockefeller Center to get people in the holiday spirit. A Westfield Stratford marketing manager sums it up, “The Christmas light switch-on at Westfield Stratford City is one of the highlights of the festive calender. This year we want to thank our loyal shoppers by giving them something they’ll never forget.”
