Carly Rae Jepsen has taken America by storm with her song, “Call Me Maybe.” The song is also played in other countries around the world, and that’s where this story gets interesting.

Ukrainian singer Aza says “Call Me Maybe” is a replica of her holiday song, “Hunky Santa.” Accusing Carly Rae Jepsen of theft, Aza and her lawyer Barry Rothman are filing a lawsuit today against the star, suing Jepsen for unspecified damages. Also named in the suit is Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun.

“I’m shocked and surprised that these people wanted to sample my lyrics on their song. They didn’t ask me for permission, they just took it,” said Aza to TMZ. “That’s why I filed this lawsuit. When I first heard it on the radio, I was driving and almost got into an accident. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.”

Listen to “Hunky Santa” now and see for yourself if it sounds similar to Jepsen’s song.

Jepsen’s reps have rejected these accusations.

“This is completely false and [Carly's] lawyers will deal with this. Everyone knows [Carly] is a songwriter. She is not spending a lot of time listening to Ukrainian radio.”
