Benjamin, 11

Heart condition

“I wish to have a Harry Potter experience!”

Benjamin is an inquisitive 11-year-old boy who suffers from a lifelong heart condition, resulting in frequent heart attacks. His favorite color is blue and he is a big fan of science fiction. He also loves to watch movies, television and spending time playing video games. He is a video game aficionado, as he is fluent with the Nintendo DS, PS2 and Wii formats. His favorite movies are anything Star Wars or Harry Potter!

Given the opportunity, Benjamin would spend his time shopping at GameStop, playing the guitar, or eating out at a Chinese restaurant or In-and-Out Burger. One of his other favorite pastimes is learning more about George Lucas and J.K. Rowling.

Benjamin’s one true wish was to visit the Harry Potter exhibits at Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida with his two brothers, sister and parents. He chose this wish because he wants to experience “what it is like to be in Harry Potter’s world, and to ride the rides.” To kick off his wish at his wish party, Benjamin was presented with a special wizard’s wand and magic journal for recording his special memories. He wrote all about his adventures in the theme parks, including touring the Harry Potter exhibits. He felt the magic all around him and saw what it was like to be a true Hogwarts student! Since being home from his trip, he frequently looks at his scrapbook and sleeps with his wizard wand under his pillow.

Ben’s parents commented that “our trip to Florida was the first time since Ben’s hospitalizations and diagnosis that our family was truly able to relax and enjoy one another’s company. It was very nice to have a break from the last year!” Benjamin’s Mom, Niki further commented that “everyone at Make-A-Wish has been so kind to our family and made Ben feel extra special. This is something that he really needed.”
