Prom is a big deal. When you are a senior in High School, it is one of those key moments that define the year. Plus there is the big question: Who are you bringing? One teenager decided to go against the grain and bring his great-grandma.
Fox News is reporting that a Ohio teenager took his 89-year-old great-grandmother to his senior prom. Usually when someone says they are bringing their grandma to prom, it’s a joke. This was completely serious. “I asked her if she would be my prom date,” Austin Dennison said in an interview. “How cool would it be to take my great-grandmother to prom?” I’m guessing, just on paper, many of his classmates wouldn’t think that was cool. Though, it became incredibly sweet.
His great-grandma, Delores (such a grandma name), didn’t go to her own prom. She actually never graduate from High School. “Times were tough,” according to the 89-year-old. “I respect my elders greatly,” said Austin. “They have a great influence on my life. To be able to sit down and talk to them and learn from them and their experiences is a great thing.” What a respectful young man. He is making my younger self look really bad right now.
How it the night go? The two went to Bob Evans for dinner. Delores favorite place. Of course, they danced and took photos. They even recieved a standing ovation from Austin’s fellow students. The DJ played Frank Sinatra’s ‘Delores’ for the two.
Oh! Almost forgot. They were home by 9 pm. Which is pretty late for Delores apparently.
