Find out more about Dan and Michelle of Mix Mornings!
In his own words…
I was born and raised in Medford, Oregon and am the youngest of five boys. I am the only one in my family to have left Medford and did so to pursue my radio career, which took me to Las Vegas, Madison, Wisconsin, Omaha and now, Sacramento. I am the proud father of 5 awesome kids (If I do say so myself): Alex, who graduated from UNLV and the ROTC program and is now serving in the Army; DJ, who’s living the dream in Las Vegas; Becca, who graduated high school, got married and living in Brazil; Jackson, who loves puzzles, sports and books; and Grace, who is definitely daddy’s little girl and already has me wrapped around her finger.
I am a marathon runner and just completed my 5th full marathon! Michelle doesn’t quite understand why I like doing Marathons so much. I actually don’t know why I like them so much either.
- Which moment from your life would you choose to relive if you could?
My wedding day. It went WAY too fast. We had a fairy tale wedding with all of our closest friends and family. When can we get all those people together again? Probably never.
- What’s the last thing you cried about?
When my Oregon Ducks lost the National Championship game. (A second time). Hold on… I’m tearing up again. Whew, OK… I’m better now.
- What one fear would you like to conquer?
HEIGHTS! I’m not sure if I have vertigo or not. I do know that it freaks me out to no end.
- Who has inspired you as a mentor and why?
Wow… so many. First and foremost, Jesus. I will strive my entire life to be like him and I know I never will come close. I look forward to my heavenly hug one day. My mom… she is a saint. I’m the youngest of 5 boys and my dad left my mom when I was very young. I don’t know how she did what she did. Wonderful, beautiful and inspirational woman. I love you mom!
Rik McNeil… He was my Program Director in Las Vegas. He was the first boss that fully believed in my talents and made me strive to be better.
- Who would you like to trade places with for one month and why?
I don’t know… pick a billionaire! I wanna spend money all willy nilly for a day with no worries!
- What song evokes the strongest memories for you and why?
My wedding song… Garth Brooks, “You Move Me.” We took dance lessons before the wedding and I have nothing but good memories from those days.
- What’s your proudest accomplishment?
Joining the Army as a 35 year old. I’m still proud of myself for getting off the couch and doing it!
- What event in the past, present or future would you like to witness in person? Why?
I wanna be around prior to GOOGLE. Then, I want to invest a couple bucks!
- If you owned a boat, what name would you choose for it? Why?
“The Don’t Sink” (for obvious reasons)
- How would you like to spend your elder years?
Traveling the country in an RV. Now, I have to convince Michelle!
In her own words…
I was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona by my two wonderful parents (who BTW are still married after 40+ years) with my older brother Ryan. (He’s an IronMan and has a master’s in Chemistry. One of us must be adopted). I graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, although, I did go to Illinois State University for one year on a full ride softball scholarship. I started out working in television as a Meteorologist/Reporter/Anchor. Somewhere between Medford, Oregon and Madison, Wisconsin I earned my Meteorology Certificate from Mississippi State and My AMS Seal of Approval. But, I quickly fell in love with radio and decided to make the switch from in front of the camera to behind the mic. I’ve never been happier than I am working with my husband and co-host.
Q & A
1. Which moment from your life would you choose to relive if you could?
Now that I am a mom, I know how difficult it can be and how many things I do everyday for our kids Jackson and Grace. So, I’d go back to being a kid and enjoy and appreciate all my parents did for me.
2. What’s the last thing you cried about?
I think it was watching an in depth piece on ESPN with my husband. We both cried. (Don’t tell him I told you that).
3. What one fear would you like to conquer?
My fear of heights. I used to be a diver but decided to take the softball route after realizing the platform was not for me. I have still never even jumped off the 10M and would love to some day.
4. Who has inspired you as a mentor and why?
My parents. They’ve been married 40+ years and I think love and respect each other more now than ever before. They are also the most kind, intelligent and wonderful people I know.
5 Who would you like to trade places with for one month and why?
My first thought was Jennifer Aniston, but she’d get mad at me for fattening her up. So, on second thought, I’d choose Kate Middleton. What an interesting life she must lead.
6. What song evokes the strongest memories for you and why?
Lucky by Jason Mraz featuring Colbie Caillat. I’m not usually this mushy gushy, but I do feel very lucky and blessed to be in love with my best friend.
7. What’s your proudest accomplishment?
My son Jackson and daughter Grace. They are truly the best work I’ve ever done.
8. What event in the past, present or future would you like to witness in person? Why?
When Jesus was on earth. It would have been amazing to spend even 5 minutes in his presence.
9. If you owned a boat, what name would you choose for it? Why?
Dan and Michelle… FREE advertising… right!?
10. How would you like to spend your elder years?
Volunteering, traveling, learning, actually doing things I pin on Pinterest and spending quality time with family and lifelong friends.
