Seriously, like we need another reason to love beer… BUT… here goes! Scientists at the University of Colorado-Boulder have discovered that beer may hold the key to producing cheaper smartphone batteries. WHAT!? How did they stumble on that gem? Well, researchers found the wastewater produced during the beer-brewing process can be turned into an important part of lithium-ion batteries. While you shouldn’t expect beer companies to start turning out smartphone batteries anytime soon, scientists did end up partnering with a local brewery to figure out how to get this thing going in a big way down the road. Pretty cool, eh?

Some Chinese people are finding that when they pick up a pen to write, the Chinese characters for simple words have entirely slipped from their mind. Surveys indicate the phenomenon, dubbed "character amnesia", is widespread across China, causing young Chinese to fear for the future of their ancient writing system. Character amnesia happens because most Chinese people use electronic input systems based on pinyin, which translates Chinese characters into the Roman alphabet.
