The west-coast version of the wildly popular ‘The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror‘ closed a few weeks ago to make way for a new attraction called ‘Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!‘
Construction has begun in earnest as Disney is planning to open the new attraction this summer. OC Register, which is a fabulous resource for all things Disneyland, spoke with Imagineer Joe Rhode about the progress of the attraction.
“Guardians is this irreverent, high-energy brand – it’s funny, it’s fast, it comes at you sideways, the characters are superunusual,” Rohde said. “The ride system is capable of being more dynamic, more movement, more disruption, so the challenge is to capture the essence of the story and the (Guardians of the Galaxy) world.”
Like Tower of Terror, the ride takes visitors up and down.
But, Rohde said, the Guardian ride will have a faster pace. The elevator door, which opened during the Tower of Terror ride to give riders a glimpse of the park, may or may not open for the Guardians ride.
“No ride will be alike,” Rohde said. “There will be multiple combinations.”
I don’t know about you, but I am super excited to check out the new attraction! For those of you needing a Tower of Terror fix, the original (and far superior) attraction in Orlando will remain untouched.
