I witnessed a spin-out crash on I-5 NB at Sutterville Rd on my way back to work this afternoon.
The guy lost control of his pickup truck and was clipped by another driver sending him spinning several times across the freeway. His front passenger side axle went airborne, and his airbag deployed as he hit the wall. Radiator fluid and steam poured out all over the road.
I and another driver immediately pulled over, blocking oncoming traffic, and assisted the guy out of his car. I (after being on hold for 3 minutes) finally reached a 911 operator who sent police.
The driver came out of the vehicle in tears, thankful to be alive repeating, “I thought I was dead, I thought I was dead.”
As the police arrived, and I recounted what I had seen I realized that it could have been the end of this guy’s life…or mine. Anything can happen, in an instant.
The guy involved in the crash extended his hand to thank me for helping him, I pulled him in for a hug and said, “I’m just glad you’re okay.” He smiled.
Be careful out there, and show a little love to those around you, you never know.
