Many couples get married on Valentine’s Day, but Leotta Litke and her boyfriend Henry had to push their plans back when the city of Oroville had to be evacuated because of the fear that the dam holding lake Oroville would break.
Leotta Litke was excited to marry her boyfriend on February 14th, 2017, but had to leave her home along with tens of thousands of others because of the evacuation. Leotta was disappointed at the situation and expressed it to others in her community.
“They said they wanted to get married today, and we said hey we can make that happen,” said a church pastor, according to CBS 13.
“We put the word out and people came through tremendously. We had donated dresses, a donated suit, donated desserts, everything was donated and we couldn’t be more happy for them,” said Chris Gray-Garcia with Placer County.
After the celebration took place, Leotta said she that she was happy to be able to meet all of her neighbors she hadn’t really talked to before.
To finish off the night, the community made sure that the couple got a limo and hotel, so that they wouldn’t have to spend their wedding night in the shelter!
