This Santa Cruz Mountain Will Be Open For The First Time In 60 Years

Mount Umunhum has been closed to the public for the past 59 years, and starting this fall, you can hike it.

According to SF Gate, the mountain has been closed for a while, but is a local icon because of a 5-story building that sits at the top.

That same building has been nicknamed “the cube” and was used by the ¬†Almaden Air Force Station during the Cold War.

Now you can hike and see it up close. Mount Umunhum will have its grand opening weekend on September 16-17.
