April the Giraffe has finally given birth! After weeks of being told she’s about to give birth at any minute, she has finally given birth to her new calf!
Many are excited about the new baby calf, with Animal Adventure Park owner, Jordan Patch stating, “His entrance into the world was unnerving to even those of us who have witnessed animal births previously. Giraffes give birth standing up, which means when the calf is ready to be born, it exits its mother hooves first from six feet off the floor, making for a very exciting event!”
The live feed of April the Giraffe started in February, and from there the zoo captured national attention, according to NPR. Many tuned in to wait and see the giraffe give birth, but the live feed was taken down for a short time after someone flagged the video for having “nudity and sexual content.”
After the video was reviewed, it was put back on Youtube and where it continued to be a sensation around the world. According to the zoo’s facebook page the baby male weighed 129 pounds and was 5’9 at the time of the post.
The baby calf doesn’t have a name yet, so the zoo has decided to put on a naming contest. You can vote to give the new baby a name HERE.
