Add this to the list of “most Silicon Valley things to happen ever.” The Palo Alto Little League in California is raffling off a Tesla Model S 75.
Proceeds from the raffle will go toward modernizing the league’s fields and facilities, updating equipment, and establishing a training endowment for volunteer coaches and umpires.
The Tesla starts at $69,500, so you could win big by purchasing a ticket for $75 each, a 3-pack for $200 or a 5-pack for $300. Then again, “only” 10,000 tickets will be sold for the campaign, according to the FundRazr raffle page, so your odds of winning are low.
Since Tax Day just passed, it should be noted that raffle ticket purchases do not qualify as deductible charitable contributions, and you’ll still have to pay taxes on the car as well as vehicle insurance. We’re assuming that isn’t cheap.
If driving an oh-so-Silicon-Valley vehicle isn’t your style, the raffle winner will have the option to accept the “Alternative Cash Prize” as the car won’t be purchased until the raffle ends on Oct. 15, according to the Mercury News.
Palo Alto Little League serves over 1,000 boys and girls ages 5 to 12 every year. The league has supported young sluggers in the region since 1952.
So far, just under 100 people have purchased tickets since the raffle began three weeks ago, 16 of which went for the $300 5-pack.
If there’s anything more vicious than parents at Little League games, it might just be parents vying for a shiny new Tesla.
