Just Months After Rio Olympic, Medals Found To Be Rusted And Defective

As we all know the Rio Olympics experienced some problems last summer; plumbing, and green pool water being a few.

Well apparently nine months later another problem is occurring and this time it has to do with the medals that were handed out to more then 130 winners.

SF Gate reported that the medals are rusting, chipping, and falling to pieces!

Olympic medals are made up of just 1.34 percent gold, and the rest is sterling silver! ABC News said that roughly 30% of the medals that were given out at the Olympics were from recycled silver.

The silver medalists are the ones that are experiencing the most problems with their medals and it’s being said that the chipping could be due to a few different factors including weather and proper handling.

It is unknown on whether or not the athletes were given instructions on how to properly care for the medals.
