Good news for animals and animal rescuers alike, you can now break open a car window to save an animal from a hot car WITHOUT the chances of getting in trouble for it.
That’s right, you can now break open a window without the chance of being persecuted if there is a suffering animal inside.
According to KCRA, “Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into law in August 2016 stating that any citizen can take the reasonable steps necessary to remove an animal from a vehicle if it appears to be in immediate danger.”
This doesn’t mean you can just go around breaking car windows if there is animal inside though.
You must first call the police to notify them of the situation, and only if you have a genuine belief that the police will not reach the animal in time to save it are you then allowed to break the window.
The new law comes after a series of dog and other animal related deaths of being left in a hot vehicle in years past.
