What Do We Love Most About Sacramento? Not Our Sports Stadiums

As Sacramentans, we love our parks, but apparently couldn’t care less about professional sports stadiums. In a recent survey only 4% of people in Sacramento said sports venues are “the single most important civic amenity to their quality of life.” Contrast that with the 54% who said parks and trails are their most prized amenity.

Valley Vision surveyed nearly 750 people to get the results. As part of the survey, they also asked people to name the local amenities they used the most. The winner, urban parks and the Sacramento and American rivers took the top 2 spots. Old Sacramento ranked third. So, where did the brand new Golden 1 Center rank? It finished 11th, behind the Sacramento  Zoo, Fairytale Town and Funderland. Surprisingly, Raley Field ranked 12th. Papa Murphy’s Park, where the Republic FC play, finished 18th.

Of those surveyed, a majority said they’d pay $21-$30/yr. in higher taxes for amenities like parks and museums.
