Finding an abandoned puppy in an airport bathroom is sad enough, but when people found out the reason why this little guy got left behind, it reached a whole new level of sadness.
According to People, Chewy, a 3-month-old chihuahua, was recently found in the bathroom of a Las Vegas airport. Beside him was a heartbreaking note from his former owner explaining why he had been left behind.
The note said:
“Hi! I’m Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford me to get on the flight,” reads the heartbreaking confession. “She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart, but she has no other option. My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much – please love and take care of him.”
Fortunately, Chewy was taken in by a local dog rescue, and has received a ton of applications for adoption. Unfortunately, these types of situations are common when it comes to cases of domestic abuse.
People reported that when victims make the courageous decision to leave toxic relationships, their animals often suffer the effects because many domestic abuse victims cannot take their pets into shelters with them.
