Why Matt LeBlanc Turned Down Lead Role On Modern Family

One hit show is an incredible feat for an actor, but two is almost unheard of! That was almost the case for Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey on NBC’s hit show “Friends.” LeBlanc was apparently offered the role of Phil Dunphy back in 2009, but turned it down saying, “I remember reading it thinking, this is a really good script, (but) I’m not the guy for this. I’d be doing the project an injustice to take this. I know what I can do, I know what I can’t do. Plus, I’m having too much fun laying on the couch.” CRAZY, right? Although, he didn’t spend too much time on the couch considering he’s back at work starring in, “Man With A Plan.”

As for Ty Burell who went on to be cast as Phil Dunphy, well, he’s doing quite well making about a million dollars an episode with some accolades too. And truly, we can’t imagine the role not being played by Ty, he’s the PERFECT Phil Dunphy.

Matt LeBlanc isn’t the only actor to have turned down golden opportunities. Check out more HERE.
