Southwest Airlines Donated A Plane To Fly Homeless Animals From Houston

Sometimes in tragedy comes healing and hope.

Many people who live in the Houston area lost their homes, lost their possessions and in some cases their pets. Soon after Hurricane Harvey, Texas shelters were overrun with pets, so Southwest Airlines offered to help move them to other shelters who could care for the animals. Southwest Airlines teamed up with Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego to relocate 60 cats and dogs from Houston. And, to do it, they donated an entire plane. A spokeswoman for Southwest said, “The idea was to move animals who were already in the shelters when the hurricane hit and were now facing euthanization … to make room for families’ pets that become homeless after Harvey.”
