Who doesn’t want to be a good wife to their husband and vice verse? It’s one thing to be a good wife and quite another to be treated like a servant.

But such was the case in 1955 when Housekeeping Monthly ran an article about how to be a “good wife.” Let’s just say standards were pretty warped during the time.

Here are some quotes taken directly from the magazine… Prepare yourself:

Take 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work weary people.

Gather schoolbooks, toys, paper, etc. and then run a dust cloth over tables.

Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair and have him lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.

Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

Your goal: Try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order, and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.

Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.

Don’t complain if he’s late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work.

Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgement or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first – remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

And remember this little topper, “a good wife always knows her place.”

Your Kids Probably Know Your Passwords

You think your laptop is safe? You think your tablets is lock and secure? Well, you are wrong! A new study found that your children most likely know your passwords and PINS. If they don’t know, they can probably find out very easily. How bad is it? Eight in ten kids say they know the passwords for their parents’ computers, phones, and tablets. One in three kids said their parents know they have the passwords and let them use their electronic devices. While 18% of kids say they got the passwords by peeking over their parents’ shoulder while they were logging on. Even if you make sure your kids aren’t around while logging on, they are have other methods. 12% just try some obvious combinations until they figure it out. One in 10 have even locked their parents’ account by guessing wrong too many times. Another scary aspect to this study was that one in four kids have used their parents’ credit card to buy something online without them knowing. They spend an average of $50. One in five said their parents never found out they spent the money. Parents maybe their needs to be a talk about responsiblity and technology or do a better job at making up passwords.

Stress Is Not Sexy

If you weren’t stressed enough already, we’re about to stress you out even more by telling you why it’s really bad for you to be stressed out.

According to a new study out of Finland, when women are stressed men can tell… and they find that highly un-sexy.

Men can detect high levels of the stress hormone called cortisol, and that makes them find women who are stressed less attractive.

In 2010, a study in Scotland found women find stressed-out men less sexy for the exact same reason. So basically, so NO ONE likes anyone when they’re stressed out.

The study also tested immune systems, and randomly found that handsome men are less likely to get colds than other men. But attractive women are not less likely to get colds than unattractive women.

Zooey Deschanel’s Makes Directorial Debut With Music Video

Zooey Deschanel is the most lovable girl in the whole wide world. Seriously, try to distribute that! Zooey is incredibly adorable and her directorial debut proves that. For those who are only familiar with Zooey’s acting career, she is also a well accomplish singer. Zooey is in band called She & Him with indie music favorite M. Ward. Their newest album, Volume 3, was recently released and the Zooey decided it was time to direct the band’s music video. “After 7 years and 4 albums with She & Him, I figure it was about time I took a crack at making a video for a song I wrote.” Zooey went on to comment on the production and the video’s influences “the process was so much fun, and gave me a chance to give a nod to some of my favorite ’60s musicals.” After seeing the video, which features the new single I Could Have Been Your Girl, it secures Zooey’s lovable, adorable, cute, funny, sweet, and the most amazing lady working in show business status. Memorial Day Weekend In Sacramento: 8 Fun Things To Do

1. Sacramento County Fair: Thursday, May 23 – Monday, May 27

For just $5, you can visit the Sacramento County Fair at Cal Expo, and if you have little ones, they get in for FREE! For you money savers out there, if you visit Friday night, you can take advantage of their dollar menu food items! More details available here.

2. Vets for Vettes: Sunday, May 26

This FREE event features classic Corvettes that will be displayed behind the California Automobile Museum on Sunday only. There will be music, food and a raffle. Entry into the museum is only free to veterans and additional information is available here.

3. Great American Hot Dog Picnic Concert: Monday, May 27

Love hot dogs, music and magic? This event might be perfect for you and your family because it includes all three! It’s $15 for adults and children are FREE. More details here.

4. 2nd Annual Torch Fest: Saturday, May 25 – Sunday, May 26

5. Sacramento Musical Festival: Friday, May 24 – Monday, May 27

“The Voice” Star Blake Shelton To Give Benefit Concert For Oklahoma

Blake Shelton was born in Ada, Oklahoma. That is pretty close to OKC. He was being texted all afternoon on Monday, as he and his wife, Miranda Lambert, still have a house near there. Last night, “The Voice” did a lovely tribute to the folks affected by the EF-5 tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma hard.

I have lived in Oklahoma…I started radio in Tulsa…and reports were that debris from the storm was falling on Tulsa last Monday night. That’s about 90 miles away!

Well, the Oklahoma native is scrambling to put together a benefit concert for next Monday.

“We’ll know more about it in the next 24 hours. I’m hoping it will raise a lot of money,” he told Billboard.com. “Obviously it will be televised and will happen really quickly.”

As far as who will be performing, the guess is most of the cast from “The Voice.” Also, Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert, will more than likely sing, too.

“I can call in some really big favors.”

Rihanna’s ‘Styled To Rock’ Inches Closer Toward U.S. Premiere

Rihanna is importing her U.K. reality TV show to the U.S., in conjunction with the Style Network. The show’s first cycle aired abroad but for the second season, Rihanna’s American fans can join in on the fashion fun.

Styled To Rock is a Project Runway-esque show produced by Rihanna, where a group of contestants create original looks. The U.K. series featured a chance for the winner to outfit Rihanna in concert, but no clear prize has been attached to the U.S. show yet.

The reality competition also offers its contestant mentors. Pharrell has signed on for the U.S. version, along with Victoria’s Secret model/designer Erin Wasson.

Sara Bareilles Set To Play LGBT Democratic Fundraiser In New York

On May 29, Sara Bareilles will join Michelle Obama in New York City for a fundraising event benefiting the Democratic National Committee.

Bareilles will perform her latest single, “Brave,” at the fundraiser, which is hosed by the LGBT Leadership Council, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bareilles has said that the song off her upcoming album, The Blessed Unrest (out June 23), was written for a friend who was struggling to come out. The track has become an anthem for LGBT teens, along with anyone else who needs a little encouragement speaking up.

The singer–who finishes up her first solo tour in New York on May 23–will be joined by NBA star Jason Collins, who made news last month after becoming the first basketball star to reveal he was gay while still playing the game.

Tickets for the event range from $1,250 to $32,400 apiece.

The Voice’s Touching Tribute To Oklahoma Tornado Victims

The Voice live elimination show kicked off on Tuesday night with a tribute to Oklahoma tornado victims.

Although all of the performances of the night were dedicated to the victims, the first performance of the night was definitely the highlight. Coach Blake Shelton and his wife Miranda Lambert performed a stripped-down acoustic version of Miranda’s hit “Over You”. The couple co-wrote the song, which was written in remembrance of Blake’s older brother who passed away unexpectedly as a teenager.

Blake is an Oklahoma native, and he and Miranda actually live just 100 miles from Moore, Oklahoma, so the tornado hits close to home for the country-music couple. Throughout their performance, donation information for the Red Cross was presented on screen, urging viewers to visit redcross.org or to call 1-800-HELP-NOW.

Wetpaint called the tribute a “touching rendition that was an appropriate way to start off the live results show during such a painful time for America”. It also mused that, “As Oklahoma residents, Blake and Miranda had a special connection to the devastation and they chose to sing a song that was particularly meaningful to them both.”

Blake also reveled to Billboard after Tuesday’s show that he isn’t done helping out the tornado victims, and a live benefit concert is in the works. The superstar will call on his famous friends and members of the music community to put together an all-star lineup. “We’ll know more about it in the next 24 hours,” Blake said. “I’m hoping it will raise a lot of money. Obviously it will be televised and will happen really quickly.”
